Animal Folklore, 2024

Animal Folklore
Animal Folklore speaks to the profound connection that humans forge with animals and the intricate stories we weave around them. These tales often serve as a means of understanding and coping with the mysteries of our own mortality. Why does the cormorant bear the burden of carrying messages from our loved ones lost at sea? Why was the rattlesnake chosen to bring death to Earth with its venom?

We all seek to find meaning, comfort, and understanding in the inevitable face of death. I aim to connect with the people who crafted these stories through the dissection of the various animals they connected with. As a printmaker, I intentionally carve out shapes and forms to build their bodies and landscapes while using various techniques including letterpress, screenprinting, and monotype to further explore their multifaceted identities.
